Track Of The Day: Denzel Curry – Stadium Starship (Prod. by The Pyrvmids)

Last year I slept on Nostalgic 64, the first full length from Denzel Curry’s since parting ways with SpaceGhostPurrp’s Raider Klan. When hearing it I soon realised my oversight. Denzel delivers machine gun lyrical dexterity combined with a mature ear when selecting his palette of beats. This far exceeds many of his peers who are of the same age (he was 18 at the time of release). In short then, he’s got bags of potential.

So with that in mind it’s exciting to see new material surface. Stadium Starship is lifted from his upcoming Planet Shrooms EP and is an ode to fallen comrades Tiarra Grant and Trayvon Martin. Denzel raps effortlessly over the codeine laced track supplied by The Pyrvmids. He peppers the beat with ease, switching gear with his flow at the 1 minute 30 mark. Lyrically he’s feeling cosmic: “I’ll phone you home with my bluetooth” and he sounds as if he’s reaching out through a televison set circa Poltergeist in between samples of news reports. Hyped For… Mac DeMarco – Salad Days

Canadian slacker rock crooner and good hearted prankster Mac Demarco has teased a track from his upcoming LP Salad Days. “Passing Out Pieces” is Mac gone bombastic (or bombastic for Mac). He’s lost none of the classic charm of his earlier work though and the added synth provides an unexpectedly satisfying glam note to the track. It’s Mac DeMarco played through the Megadrive at the planetarium. He’s perfectly on point again as we’ve come to expect. Salad Days is out on April 1st. listen to the track below:

Track Of The Day: Doley Bernays & Euro League – ReeLife Sound pt.2

Produced by VDon & MP Williams, ReeLife members Euro League and Doley Bernays (who delivered one of the mixtapes of last year: Just In Case) have collaborated on ‘ReeLife Sound pt.2 ‘. The two Bronx MC’s rap effortlessly over a dizzying euphoric beat, their flows and verses connecting seamlessly. This is a statement from two talented rappers surely on the rise in 2014. Best New Mixtape: Squadda B – Back To Playtime

Nobody can criticise Oakland cloud rap kings Squadda B and Mondre M.A.N for a lack of creative output. As duo Main Attrakionz or as solo artists they have released an onslaught of albums, mixtapes and EP’s over recent years. Squadda has just dropped his newest addition ‘Back To Playtime’ which follows up last year’s mammoth double album ‘Playtime’. Squadda B delivers his trademark dreamy syrup trickling sound with a few added suprises that update his arsenal. For fans of A$AP Rocky, Clams Casino and Ryan Hemsworth. Like this try ‘808s and Dark Grapes II’ by Main Attrakionz or Squadda B’s ‘I smoke Because I don’t Care About Death’ tapes. Listen to the album below:
